Schools4Communities' vision statement
S4C will work for a fairer education system for all children. We believe that national and local educational policy on school admissions should be based upon the following key principles:
- Children's well-being is paramount – lottery-based systems that leave children's educational futures to chance and heighten anxiety are not an acceptable way to determine school places;
- Schools should be genuinely socially inclusive and reflect the diverse society we live in – this can be achieved through systems such as fair banding;
- Community cohesion – schools can be community hubs offering a rich array of educational, social and creative opportunities within local communities. It is every child's right to be able to attend a local school and be able to take advantage of these opportunities.
These are long-term aims and will require a long-term vision and commitment to the development of a system of admissions that is genuinely fairer to all children in this growing city and a continuing commitment to building new schools at the heart of local communities.
